        Priyanka Chopra’s mother Dr Madhu Chopra has suffered from a deadly allergic reaction called anaphylaxis. Dr Chopra, who is a well-known dermatologist, revealed this health update through her Instagram page. She was seen with a drip on her hand at the hospital where she was being treated for Anaphylaxis. For the unversed, Anaphylaxis is an allergic reaction to food, insect sting, medication, or other triggers that can turn deadly in no time. It requires immediate attention from the a medical professional.

        Anaphylaxis is a severe and potentially life-threatening allergic reaction that happens very quickly, according to the National Health Service UK. It can occur quickly in response to allergens like foods, insect stings, medication, or other triggers. Someone infected with anaphylaxis will experience a widespread release of chemicals in the body, that would trigger several symptoms.

        Since it occurs quickly and needs immediate response, you should know the signs and symptoms of the disease.

        Symptoms of anaphylaxis

        The symptoms of the condition can vary from one person to another and can be severe. Having said that, here are the common signs and symptoms of anaphylaxis, as per various medical authorities:

        1. Breathing difficulties

        One of the most critical symptoms of the allergic reaction is the patient may experience shortness of breath or difficulty breathing.

        2. Swelling

        Swelling of the face, throat, and tongue, which is rapid and pronounced, is also a common symptom of anaphylaxis.

        3. Skin reactions

        Hives, itching, pale skin, and raised or itchy welts are some of the skin infections that you may develop if you get anaphylaxis.

        Another common symptom of anaphylaxis is that the heart rate may become significantly faster or weaker, so you might experience a rapid or weak pulse.

        5. Low blood pressure

        Most people experiencing an anaphylactic reaction may see a sudden drop in their blood pressure levels. So, make sure to check your blood pressure levels as a fast and extreme drop in blood pressure levels can be deadly.

        As per NHS UK, you should immediately consult a doctor if you experience swollen lips, fast breathing, feeling wheezy, blue tongue or lips, feeling drowsy and fainty.

        The first step to do after you have an anaphylactic reaction is to visit the doctor. Here are some steps that you can take in case it needs immediate attention, as per the medical authorities:

        • Anaphylaxis is a medical emergency, so seek immediate medical help
        • You could use an epinephrine auto-injector to help counter the effects of the allergic reaction
        • If you are the caregiver to someone going through anaphylaxis, lay the person down with their legs elevated if they are conscious. This will help improve blood flow.
        • Keep monitoring vital signs like the pulse and breathing if the other symptoms are more prominent.
        • Don’t panic and handle the situation as calmly as you can.
